Newport Camille Eva Ben H Omar Colin

Who was Newport? Christopher Newport was born in 1561 and died in 1617. His job was a privateer and navigator. A privateer and navigator is similar to a pirate except he fought the pirates. While he was fighting he lost his hand and replaced it with a hook.

James Town Christopher Newport came to Jamestown to colonize it. He brought lots of people with him to settle and live there. He came back four more times bringing more and more people with him. He is one of the first men to reach the Fall Line of the James River. He crossed the Atlantic Ocean from England to get to Jamestown, Virginia.

What was Newport looking for? Christopher Newport sailed from England . He was hired by a company and sent by the king to settle and build in Virginia. He was looking for 3 things: A western route to Asia To discover riches To colonize land in Virginia

Relationship to the Indians When Newport first arrived in Jamestown, he and his me were attacked by the Virginia Indians with arrows. Later, he and John Smith visited the leader of the Indians named Pawhatan. They were treated well and fed well. Newport gave Pawhatan a suit of clothing, a hat, and a greyhound dog. But ten relations between the colonists the Indians soured. The Indians stopped helping the colonists. Newport kept trying to be friendly with them, and not fight. He did not attack the Indians or steal their food.

Newport Came... American Indians were already there Explorer kicked them out of their houses Explorers made them become slaves Explorers brought diseases that killed the American Indians 3 out of 4 American Indians died.
