Superintendent Search Requirements Alabama Code Chapter 16 Title 12 Within 90 days of Vacancy the Board Shall: Announce the process in Board meeting Approve timeline in Board meeting Post notice of vacancy at every school and work site for at least 30 days

Notice of Vacancy Alabama Code 16-12-1 requires the following be included in the notice: Job description Required qualifications (outlined in Alabama Code 16-12-2) Salary range Information on where to submit application Information on any deadlines for applying Any other relevant information

Step 1 - Job Description The superintendent serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Huntsville City Board of Education. His or her duties include those prescribed by the Alabama Code (including, but not limited to Title 16-12-1 et seq., 16-24C-1 et seq.) and requirements, policies, and regulations established by the Alabama State Board of Education and the Huntsville City Board of Education. He or she will provide effective leadership to the school system and shall be responsible for the administration of all its functions.

Step 2 - Required Qualifications Alabama Code 16-12-1 General fitness and character appropriate to the position; Degree from a recognized four-year college or university; Certificate or eligibility for certification in administration and recognized ability as a school administrator; A minimum of five years successful experience in, and general knowledge of public school administration; Such other minimum qualifications as may be established by statute or the State Board of Education; The successful candidate will be required to reside within Huntsville city limits.

Step 3 - Notice Requirements – Salary Range Huntsville City Schools is the sixth largest system in the state, without considering our pre-school enrollment; In per pupil spending, as it relates to Superintendent salary, Huntsville City Schools ranks 132 out of 137 at $8.46 In the percentage of the budget, as it relates to Superintendent salary, Huntsville City Schools ranks 132 out of 137 at 0.06%.

Neighboring Systems - Salary Madison County $8.16 per pupil, 0.06% of the budget; Limestone County $14.70 per pupil, 0.12% of the budget; Madison City Schools $15.10 per pupil, 0.15% of the budget; Morgan County $17.45 per pupil, 0.16% of the budget; Decatur City $21.29 per pupil, 0.16% of the budget; Marshall County $25.38 per pupil, 0.20% of the budget; Athens City $35.79 per pupil, 0.17% of the budget;

Step 4 - Information on Where to Apply Human Resources Department, or Lanier, Ford, Shaver, & Payne

Step 5 - Information on Deadlines Must be posted for 30 days Post first business day after board approval Remain posted for 30 days, or first business day after 30 days, then closed

Step 6 - Superintendent Search Timeline Thursday, June 28, 2018: Announce process in Board meeting Approve timeline in Board meeting Friday, June 29, 2018: Post job notice Friday, June 29, 2018 – Monday July 30, 2018 Begin accepting resumes and letters of intent
