During its life 1 million copies of VisiCalc were sold. It was first installed on Apple computers in 1979. It could handle 63 columns and 254 rows of data. The first spreadsheet for personal computers was called VisiCalc – and looked like this.

Today Microsoft Excel is installed on over 750 million personal computers. It can handle 16,384 columns and 1,048,576 rows of data. That means you could record the names’ of all the people in the world on one spreadsheet.
