What is a Chromebook?

Student Responsibilities Use computers in a responsible and ethical manner. Comply with trademark and copyright laws and all license agreements. Plagiarism is a violation of the OMS Student Handbook. OCS will not back up documents on the Chromebook. Students should always manage their documents in their Google Drive or Canvas. OCS reserves the right to inspect and reset Chromebooks at any time.

Student Responsibilities Chromebooks must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers, or labels that are not the property of Oneonta City Schools. Chromebooks must remain in a secure or supervised area. Any misplaced or unsupervised Chromebooks will be placed in the OMS office. Students are responsible for keeping their Chromebook's battery charged for school each day. Only media for educational purposes should be saved to the device. Any photo used as a screensaver or background should be appropriate for the school environment.

Student Responsibilities Printing will not be available at school with the Chromebook. Assignments will be submitted electronically. Storage on the device should be limited to educational use only. Students are only allowed to login to the Chromebook with their ocsredskins.com account. Students should keep the Chromebook away from food, drinks, and other liquids.

Student Responsibilities Students are allowed to add extra extensions and apps on their Chromebooks. These will be monitored by the district and removed as needed. If a student receives an e-mail with inappropriate and/or abusive language or if the subject matter is questionable, the student should make a teacher or administrator aware immediately. Maintaining your Chromebook Keep the Chromebook away from extreme temperatures. Do not stack books or other heavy materials on top of the chromebook. Chromebooks should be in a protective sleeve, case, or backpack when being carried. Refrain from picking at the seals, feet, case, or stickers on the Chromebook.

Chromebook Repair If your Chromebook seems to be malfunctioning: Shut down the Chromebook and Restart Technology Room Hours are 7:30-7:50, 11:00-12:00, and 2:30-2:55 daily Loaner devices may be assigned during repair. If a loaner is assigned due to excessive damage or a discipline issue, the school administration may check the device out daily through the school office. Must leave the charger when the Chromebook is being repaired

Chromebook Repair Intentional and repeated damage will result in fines issued to the student that is equal to the cost of the repair See Pgs. 4-5 in Chromebook Manual Sample costs from 2014-15: Broken Case=$150 Cracked Screen=$55 Missing Charger=$15 Seal pulled away from the screen=$75

Chromebook Return Chromebooks will be collected after students are finished taking their final exams. Must return if student withdraws, is expelled, or terminates enrollment at OCS. Failure to return the device will result in a theft report being filed with the Oneonta Police Department Upon return, students are responsible for any damage to the Chromebook. Normal wear is expected, but the Chromebooks are expected to be returned in good working condition. See Pg. 25 in Chromebook Manual

At Home Students are allowed to connect to their home Internet. Students may set up home printing capabilities. OCS will provide content filtering at home through iBoss.

Items Required for Chromebook Pick-Up 1. Orientation Attendance of Student and Parent 2. Signed Forms Technology Documents Verification Internet Usage Agreement WebApps Permission Form 3. $30 Technology Usage Fee (Keep your receipt.)

Student Distribution Chrome books will be distributed the first week of school during school hours, pending the receipt of all required signed documents and the payment of the Technology Usage Fee. If you need financial assistance with the fee, contact the local school administration.
