A Framework for World History

Political How did the society make decisions? How was power distributed? How were rules and laws created and enforced?

Economic How were goods and services produced and distributed? Who owned what? Who did what? How were the daily needs of the people managed?

Religious What did people believe about death and the afterlife? What, if any, deities did people worship and how? What institutions existed for religious practice and how did they relate to the governing bodies?

Social How did the society organize itself into groups? What social classes existed and on what were they based? How was status or esteem earned?

Intellectual/Artistic What technology did the culture use? What knowledge and arts were valued? What was the status of the artist or intellectual compared to the society?

Area/Geography Remember the five themes? (sing it!) Location (absolute and relative) Place Movement Human/Environment Interaction Region
