National 5 2i –and decisions I made

Duration of training session Number of sessions per week Training area When planning your Personal Development Plan(PDP) there are many decisions you have to make. For instance: Length of programme Duration of training session Number of sessions per week Training area Conditions Training partners 3(i) In addition to the approaches you used, justify further decisions that you made when planning your PDP. (4 marks)

My PDP was based on the activity of badminton and I looked at improving 2 development needs through skills training and different mental and emotional approaches. Development need 1: (badminton skill) ------------------------ Development need 2: (mental/emotional Approach) My PDP

Duration ( how long did your training programme last)? Was it long enough to make progress? Was it short enough to not get bored? Frequency (how often did you train per week/how many sessions)? Time ( how long was each session)? Length of programme

Answer Examples Answer: I trained for 6 weeks giving me enough time to make progress as well as combating boredom as I wasn’t training for too long. I trained twice a week for 45min per session. I then added another session per week to give me more game development time. Answer Examples

As our school hall is far too small-We hired out Springburn leisure centre to give us more space to train, giving us more court time and allowing us to play full court games. I trained with my peers who were working on the same skill/shot as me, However, when playing competitive games, I changed my training partner to play against a more experienced player to give me more of a challenge. Answer examples

When planning my PDP I made sure I followed the principles of training When planning my PDP I made sure I followed the principles of training. I took into consideration the SPORT and FITT principles. Throughout the programme I made my training more difficult as the weeks went on, making the drills progressively harder or trained at a faster pace. I started with easy drills such as shadow and repetitive drills to get a feel of the shot and correct any mistakes, I then planned to make it harder by adding in movement to different areas of the court or adding in a combination of shots. Answer examples

I planned to monitor my training by completing a skill-based test in the middle of my training to see if I’m progressing in the right direction and I will re-do the same gather data method (to compare to the first one)at the end of my PDP to see if improvements have been made and highlight how successful my training programme has been. I planned to get feeback on my performance before, during and after training to see if improvements are evident to others and to help me develop my weaknesses better. I planned to spend one half of the session on my second development need so I don’t over look my second factor. Answer examples
