Chapter One The Peopling and Unpeopling of America America and Its Peoples: A Mosaic In The Making, 5th ed. Martin, Roberts, Mintz, McMurry, and Jones

Routes of the First Americans The Paleo-Indians migrated across the land bridge that once linked Asia and America. They then journeyed southward and eastward in populating North and South America.

The Aztecs, Mayas, and Incas The Aztecs, Mayas, and Incas evolved from simple, agriculturally based groups to become politically and socially complex civilizations.

The Atlantic Community, Late 1400s Native Americans, Europeans, and Africans made up a triad of peoples around the Atlantic Ocean.

Voyages of Exploration The European exploration of the Americas came in waves after Columbus's initial voyages in the late 1400s. In the 1500s Spain’s American empire took shape, and in the early 1600s England, France, Holland, and Sweden located settlements north of New Spain along the Atlantic coast.
