Circulatory System Notes. Pulmonary Circulation: Lungs, oxygen into blood, carbon dioxide out Systemic Circulation: Moves blood to body (not to heart.
The Circulatory System. Function  Consists of the heart and blood vessels  Carries oxygen and nutrients to the body’s cells and remove carbon dioxide.
Chapter 16 Lesson 1. Did You Know All the cells in your body need to receive oxygen and nourishment. The cells also need to have carbon dioxide and waste.
Why is it important? Your body’s cells depend on the blood vessels to bring nutrients & remove wastes.

Circulatory System Notes

What is the circulatory system? Circulatory System moves blood through the body. The heart is the pump for this system. Blood flows through blood vessels. The cardiovascular system is a closed circulatory system. The blood maintains homeostasis (equilibrium) by transporting hormones nutrients oxygen to cells By carrying waste away from cell The circulatory also helps keep the different parts of the body at an even temperature.

What system does the cardiovascular system work with? The cardiovascular system works with the lymphatic system to send fluids around the body and to protect your body from disease. Both the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems make up the human bodies circulatory system. This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY

What are the parts of the cardiovascular system? The cardiovascular system is made up of the heart, blood vessels and blood. The heart has four chambers. The upper chambers are called atrium. The lower chambers are called ventricles. A flaplike structure called valves are between the atria and the ventricle and in place where large vessels are attached.

Parts of the system continued An artery is a blood vessel that carries oxygen-rich blood away from the heart. Aorta is the largest artery in the body. Veins are blood vessels that carries oxygen-poor blood back to the heart. Capillary deliver oxygen-rich blood to body cells and take oxygen-poor blood away from body cells. Capillaries are the smallest blood vessel of the human body. This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-SA

Label the parts of the capillary bed.

How does blood move through the body? The flow of the blood between the heart and lungs is called pulmonary circulation. The oxygen rich blood then flows back to the heart where it is pumped around the body. The circulation of blood between the heart and the rest of the body in called systemic circulation. Oxygen-poor blood returns to heart from body cells in the systemic circulation.
