Veteran Housing Issues: Networking/Meeting Needs 2/12/13 Overview of Monroe Homes Inc. Presented by Neil J. Gaffney, Executive Director Veteran Housing Issues: Networking/Meeting Needs 2/12/13

Mission Statement CREATE: Monroe Homes, Inc. creates and helps communities create permanent housing with linkages to supportive services to help our Veterans and their families achieve housing stability and helping to reduce homelessness. MISSION: Monroe Homes, Inc’s mission and vision is to acquire, rehabilitate or develop, own, rent and manage affordable housing that provides supportive services needed to serve, strengthen, and encourage our veterans in need. ACHIEVE: Monroe Homes’ Inc. advances it mission by meeting the unmet needs of the veteran and their family, identifying the housing unit, bringing the people, skills, and resources together and working to have those services delivered with integrity, respect and dignity, in accordance with, program and eligibility guidelines, and the interest of the Veteran and their family.

Home Configuration Monroe Homes selects homes of various bed and bath configurations to serve a variety of needs of our Homeless Veterans. In most jurisdictions, a four or five bedroom house can serve four or five individual males or a large family. For a family, either a two parent family or single parent families, a three of four bedroom unit should serve very well.

Rehabilitation Homes will be modified to meet the county code, ADA and any disability needs of the family. In a single sex environment, every “guest” will have their own room for privacy. Common areas are for the use of all residents. Internet access provided to all bedrooms and most of the common areas.

Rehabiliation (Continued) Each home will be made as energy efficient as possible. Project or other government or commercial sources of funding will be used.

Other Requirements Term of stay will be 18 months with a possible ED extension until 24 months. Everyday maintenance and cleanliness will be required of the “Guests.” Outside appearance of the home will also most likely be a requirement of the “Guests.” Attendance at all training sessions will be required. (Unless Excused)

Interaction into the Community Veteran participation will be engaged with various veteran or community services which address: Mental health services Issues with drugs and alcohol Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Military Sexual Trauma Other barriers that prevent maintaining a stable life Wrap around services will be provided to participants through collaborative efforts with existing non-profits.
