Document A (New England) John Winthrop: Minister and Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony Gave this speech right before settlers landed in the colony (1630) Analysis: Emphasizes collectivism, community, role of religion  seems to suggest that the motives for British colonization in New England were religious and highly community- oriented; doesn’t seem focused on commerce Belief that they were on a mission from God BUT we have to wait and see if other sources corroborate these ideas
