3 Nature of Bam earthquake On 26 December 2003, at 5:26 AM local time, an earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale struck the city of Bam and surrounding villages. About hundred after shocks have been recorded within 1 month. 3

The main impacts of Bam earthquake Although the impact of the earthquake seems to be limited to a relatively small area of about 16 km in radius, the 2,500 years old historic city of Bam was almost completely destroyed. 4
