Purpose of the Workshop Explore how collaborative leadership supports strategic planning around digital learning Refer to FG, Page 1-2.

Objectives Review the key components for collaborative leadership to support digital learning Learn about strategic planning tools for digital learning implementation Think about who the appropriate education leaders are in your state/district to coordinate the strategic planning process Refer to FG, Page 1-2.

Objectives Discuss with colleagues what teaching and learning would look like if leaders from across disciplines collaborated on aligned digital learning solutions Discuss some of the key policies and practices that impact and support learning in the digital age Develop and maintain relationships with other district and state leaders Refer to FG, Page 1-2.

Take Off, Touch Down Activity Stand if you have worked in a school for 1 or more years Stand if you are an administrator Stand if you leverage digital tools in your classroom/school/district Stand if you are in a leadership position Stand if you leverage digital tools in your personal/social life Introduce the welcome activity to help you better understand who is in the audience and to get participants engaged. Learning in the Digital Age Technology is an essential component of teaching and learning today Teachers can personalize learning using digital applications Students can create content, interact with experts, collaborate with peers and participate in simulation activities. Provide background information Refer to FG, Background, page 3-4.

Learning in the Digital Age Personalized learning experiences empower students to take control of their own learning through flexibility and choice. Technology offers all students – urban, rural, low-income, ESL, special needs, high achieving – the opportunity to engage in dynamic learning activities. Refer to FG, Background, page 3-4

Key Components Develop a shared vision for how technology can support learning Seek input from a diverse team of stakeholders Communicate with all stakeholders and establish effective feedback loops Ensure that practitioners at the school and district level use and understand research Adapted from NETP 2017 Refer to FG, Key Components, page 3-4.

Shared Vision Unlike a consensus in which everyone agrees, developing a shared vision represents buy-in from all stakeholders and reflects efforts to involve the right people at the right times. Refer to FG, Background, page 3.-4.

External Collaboration On the Same Page 2.0 Spark conversation among stakeholders Emphasizes the importance of information flow Ownership by all stakeholders. Depending on your audience and the time allotted for this workshop give participants time to explore this resource. Or give participants an action step to review this document over the next few weeks and share thoughts or respond to comments in an online learning community/Professional Learning Network. Brainstorming Activity Discussion Questions Who are the appropriate leaders in your district or school to coordinate efforts for strategic planning? Who are your target audiences? What external stakeholders should you include in the process? What technology tools are using for communication and feedback? Refer to FG, Brainstorming, page 5 for activity instructions

Exemplar Rapid Fire Presentations Add presenter name, district/school Discussion Questions How is your school/district similar to the exemplar? Are there practices shared that your school/district can implement right away? What are some of your challenges? Ask one or two exemplar schools/districts to share their background and experience regarding collaborative leadership for learning. The presentations should be 5-7 minutes and prepared in advance of the workshop. Additional information about presentations can be found in the Logistics resource. Collaborative Leadership Activity Discussion Questions How does collaborative leadership support the behavioral responses of teachers and students with the roll-out of new initiatives? What would teaching and learning look like if leaders from academics, assessment, technology, and finance collaborated on aligned digital learning solutions? How does the school or district create an environment that supports risk taking and innovation while remaining accountable? What is your collective vision and implementation plan for learning in the digital age? Now that we have done some brainstorming and heard from our peers, its time to delve more deeply into the topic. Refer to FG, Collaborative Leadership, page 6 for activity instructions

Policies & Initiatives Discussion Questions What are the key policies and practices that need to change in your school or district to realize your shared vision? How can your district/school build educator capacity to implement digital learning pedagogy and practices? How can the district employ a cycle of transformation to ensure continued improvement? Discuss how state and local leaders can build capacity for collaborative leadership by coordinating efforts and engaging in strategic planning. These questions can also be used as key topic areas for follow-up workshops. Refer to FG, Policies & Initiatives, page 7
