The scientific name is Ouibos Moschatus The musk oxen is a mammal introduction The scientific name is Ouibos Moschatus The musk oxen is a mammal

What musk oxen looks like Big white horn on top of their head Look like a buffalo Fur all over their body Musk Oxen are 6 feet tall Stocky body like a cow Short leg Male weighs 500 to 900 pound Females are called cows and weigh less than a male

More of what musk oxen looks like!!!!!! Dark brown hair or almost black Has a creamy yellowish fur on it back Musk Oxen has hair on it for head Musk Oxen has long hair in the front of their body On their shoulder is curly hair

LIFESPAN IS IT ENDANGERED? CAN LIVE UP TO 25 YEAR OLD IT IS AT A LOWER RISK, WHICH MEANS IT IS NOT ENDANGERED.

climate They live in the Tundra. The Tundra is the coldest of all biomes, meaning a treeless plain. The average temperature during the winter is -34 degrees

Habitat They live in the Northern Tundra. The winters are on high grounds where wind blows snow off the Musk Oxen. If the snow stayed on them, it would bury them. In the summer they move to the lower valley. In the lower valley they walk around the willows Musk Oxen live in packs.

food In spring musk oxen eat weeds, shrubs, and grass In the winter musk oxen eat bilberry, crowberry, Labrador and tea When their food is frozen they bang their head on the ice to get it

prey Wolves and polar bears prey on Musk Oxen Native people hunt Musk Oxen, for food and fur When Musk Oxen die, foxes eat them.

reproduction Mother musk oxen give birth every other year!!!!! Musk Oxen have a lot of time with their young. The babies grow fast. They nurse on the mother’s rich milk for one year.

behavior Musk Oxen live in herds. When they are getting attacked, they get in a circle with the babies in the middle. The adults in the herd take turns killing their prey. They migrate to the lower valley in summer

Physical adaptations Musk Oxen have lots of fur to protect them from mosquitoes and flies. Their two coats of fur keep them warm in the cold Tundra. The outer coat keeps them warm from the snow and wind. The inner coat traps the warm air to keep the body warm. In April or May, Musk Oxen shed because the weather gets warmer and they do not need fur. The horns protect their eyes

Behavioral adaptations When a herd gets small it joins a larger group to survive. Musk Oxen lay down to digest their food. They lower their heads, snort, and paw at the ground to tell their predators to back off.

Physiological adaptations The Musk Oxen have very good eye sight because in the tundra the days are short and the nights are long. Sometimes there is no real day light for weeks, so the Musk Oxen have a very good sense of smell and hearing in order for them to survive in the Tundra. They have broad hoofs that prevent them from sinking in soft snow and help scratch through snow in search of food

Awesome facts Musk Ox have the longest fur out of all the animals in the wild. The Musk Ox gets its name from its smell. When you get close to a Musk Ox it smells like musk. They are one of the few animals that can live in the cold Tundra.
