Honors Photosynthesis Graph Practice

What is the factor which is limiting the rate of photosynthesis at point X on the graph? Account for the increase in the rate of photosynthesis in the graph when the temperature is raised from 20 degrees C to 30 degrees C. Name an environmental factor other than temperature which may be limiting the rate at point Y.

The graph shows the absorption spectrum of chlorophyll a and the rate of photosynthesis over the same range of wavelengths. What evidence on the graph indicates that chlorophyll a is not the only pigment involved in photosynthesis?

Why did the rate of photosynthesis plateau Why did the rate of photosynthesis plateau? What could be environmental condition could be changed to increase the rate more?

= A. =B What could cause the difference in photosynthesis rate between curve A and B when the carbon dioxide levels are the same?

Assuming that temperature was kept constant, what do YOU think is the most likely cause of the variations in the rate of photosynthesis in this graph?

Why do you think increasing the temperature causes an increase, THEN a sharp decrease in the rate of photosynthesis?

Explain the pattern you’re seeing in this graph.

Assume there IS a constant level of atmospheric CO2. What may cause plant B to stop absorbing CO2 in the middle of the day and HOW does it stop the absorption? How does this effect it’s rate of photosynthesis?

Stop here today
