Biography Biographies – Listen to a biography of Bill Pickett, a famous African American cowboy. Remember: Biographies – are true stories about the life of a real person. tell why the person is important. give opinions and judgments based on facts.

When you read or listen to a biography… you should listen to find out why the person is important! One purpose for listening is to find out why Bill Pickett was so famous.

Model Oral Fluency:

The plot of a fiction story includes at at least one conflict (problem) that the main character faces, and his or her efforts to resolve (solve) it. Usually the conflict is introduced at the beginning of the story, and the resolution occurs near the end. Let’s look at page 182.

Tip: Sometimes the resolution of a conflict is different from what the character wants or expects.

Media Literacy: Where would you look if you wanted to find a recipe for biscuits? Recipes are available in a wide variety of media resources. Let’s make a list of places we could find a biscuit recipe…
