Differentiated Services Content in Context How can you support schools’ individual needs? Differentiated Services
What are Differentiated Services? Differentiated Services in HC means providing schools with the services that fit their individual and unique needs based on data In HC, we recommend targeting additional services particularly to high-need schools – schools that face significant challenges as measured by data around student outcomes, student characteristics and demographics, staff turnover and retention, and teacher or school leadership quality Examples include: Providing more support for recruitment, if needed Holding schools harmless from surplusses or placements Offering differentiated pay Using early contract hiring Strategic or Not
Ways to Differentiate Getting to Know Your Customers Schools – primarily principals – are our key customers Numerous ways to get to know a school: By their adult data By their student data By their student/community demographics By their greatest challenges By the principal’s personality and way of doing business By their supervisor’s assessment/thoughts By site visits One size does not fit all
Why is This Important? Differentiated Services Offer schools better customer service by analyzing, understanding, and providing services for their unique needs Focus limited resources where they are needed most Provides additional resources to highest-need schools Strategic or Not
Keep in Mind Things to Remember Differentiated Services run counter to the culture in education of treating everyone the same Work with your union/association to help them understand the need to differentiate Schools face different challenges and unique talent needs; use data and insights to serve them effectively Principals – as HC’s key customer – can help you understand what services they need most Many organizations do not have just one list of high-need schools – determining where you target your HC differentiated services with other departments (Academics, etc.) can be a starting point Strategic or Not
