Lesson 2 Article Manager – Text Prep Preparing your text for Article Manager, our online content management system

Check Your Article…Again! Do not move on until you have: Written Edited Spell checked Grammar checked Re-read from an objective point of view or by an objective person Polished Re-checked and found the glitches caused by the polish (there always are a couple) "An error doesn't become a mistake until you refuse to correct it.” - Orlando A. Battista

In the Beginning Is the Word… BEFORE YOU LOG ON: Write and save your article on your computer. Remove formatting by using NOTEPAD for PC or SIMPLE TEXT (TextEdit in OS X) for Mac Do not write it in Article Manager. If you click away from the web page, when you click back, all your writing will be gone and you will have to start over. Use your computer’s word processing program first. SEE LESSON 1. It is important to go through these steps or you may find yourself going crazy trying to get your article to look right for publishing.

Copying Your Article Go to your article in MS Word or other text program* Go anywhere on the page and Select the entire article by holding down Ctrl and A which will highlight the entire document. Hold in Ctrl and C which will Copy all of the document into the clipboard. *MAC USERS: Read Simple Text or TextEdit for Notebook.

Paste into Notepad to Remove the Formatting Go to Notepad* and Paste what is in the clipboard by holding down Ctrl and V. Now Select the entire page by holding down Ctrl and A. Copy the text again by holding down Ctrl and C. *MAC USERS: Read Simple Text or TextEdit for Notebook. NOTE: If you don’t like using the keystroke shortcuts (or cannot remember them) that’s okay. Just click on the Edit menu. “Select” and “Copy” and “Paste” will all be in the pull-down menu there.

Paste into Article Manager Log on to Article Manager* and scroll down the page until you see the Content Box. Click on it. Paste the content that you copied from Notepad into the Content Box of Article Manager by holding Ctrl and pushing V * To get to Article Manager, log in on the Splash website with your username and password, then click the Article Manager link and choose Create New. More in Lesson #3 Article Manager – Text Uploading

Summary Text To place the summary text into Article Manager Copy the text from MS Word or your text program (Ctrl and A) making sure that there are no more than 25 words and no period Go to the Summary box right above the Content box. Click inside it and Paste your summary (Ctrl and V).

Congratulations! You are now done with Lesson #2 Please move on to Lesson #3 If you have any questions or comments of suggestions, please email them to ld@lasplash.com Thanks Lawrence
