The Nervous System

What is the Nervous System What It Does: Detects sensations Controls movements Physiologic process Intellectual function Relates To: The Inegumentary System Located In: Cranial Cavity Spinal Cavity ALLY: The Nervous System detects sensations and controls movements, physiologic processes, and intellectual functions. It can easily relate to the Integumentary System, which is skin and hair which contain receptors that send info to the brain. The autonomic nervous system regulates peripheral blood flow and sweat glands. The nerves control muscles connected to hair follicles. PAULINA: The brain is located in the cranial cavity and the spinal cord is located in the dorsal cavity.

Central Nervous System Brain Spinal Cord KIMMEL: A Complex of nerve tissue that controls the activates of the body processing center. Receives and sends info to and from the Peripheral Nervous System. Brain: Interprets and processes information sent from the spinal chord Spinal chord: sends info to the brain

Peripheral Nervous System Motor Neurons Mediating volunteer movement Automatic Nervous System Sympathetic/Parasympatheic Enteric Nervous System Control’s the Gastrointestinal System The Peripheral Nervous System consists of: sensory neurons running from stimulus receptors that inform the CNS of the stimuli motor neurons running from the CNS to the muscles and glands, called effectors, that take action The Automatic Nervous System, a part of the Peripheral Nervous System, consists of: The Sympathetic Nervous System who’s function is to mobilize the body's response under stressful circumstances. Thus, the sympathetic nervous system initializes the 'fight or flight' response of the body. The Parasympathetic Nervous System, is responsible for the 'rest and digest' phase of the body. The parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for bringing about an increase in salivation, tear production, urination, digestion and defecation. The Enteric Nervous System controls the functions of the Gastrointestinal System.
