The best time to visit the city is in spring and autumn when the temperature is mild and the days, thanks do Daylight Saving Time, are longer. If visiting the city between June and September, proper sun protection is advised. Roman cooking is essentially based on popular, working-class food,  mainly using simple ingredients which has been enhanced over the centuries by various recipes brought in by peoples living in the city and surrounding area. The Villa is one of the most important remaining examples of imperial and dynastic palaces. Located in the very middle of Piazza Navona, the Fountain of the Four Rivers is a masterpiece from Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680). To an untrained eye the Circus of Maxentius just looks like a vast green pasture where locals jog or take their dogs for a walk, but in ancient times this oblong ground was, as its name indicates, Rome’s most famous and by far oldest circus. It may be two thousand years old but the Colosseum is still the symbol of the eternal city, every year drawing thousands of visitors, meaning long queues and an endless wait. You can buy one of two tourist cards: the “Roma Pass” which is valid for three days and entitles holders to free admission and no-queue entrance for the first two museums and to free travel throughout Rome, or the “Archeologia Card” which is valid for 7 days and allows free entry into each of the following sites:  Palazzo Massimo, Palazzo Altemps, Crypta Balbi, Terme di Diocleziano (Baths of Diocletian), the Colosseum, the Palatine, Terme di Caracalla (Caracalla Baths), Villa dei Quintili, Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, Roman Forum.
