Chapter 1 History
LOC 2 -> NUTS 5 -> LAU 2 LOC 1, LOC 2 in early 1990’s NUTS level 4, NUTS level 5 from around 1995 Municipalities or similar local units NUTS regulation covers only 3 levels Need new name = LAU Local Administrative Units NUTS 4 -> LAU level 1 NUTS 5 -> LAU level 2
Chapter 2 LAU in the Regulation
Smaller Administrative Units Defined in Annex 3 of NUTS Regulation Corresponds to LAU level 2 in most cases Greece and Ireland are exceptions Need to provide lists of LAU which make up a NUTS region
Lists of LAU (1) Lists of LAU by NUTS level 3 units have to be supplied to Eurostat Request sent out to RESCO 22 October 2003 LAU list will be published 9 Jan. 2004 RAMON classifications server Reference date 11 July 2003 Most countries replied
Lists of LAU (2) Missing countries: Greece France UK / Scotland Please send the lists to: ESTAT-NUTS@cec.eu.int
Reports on changes to LAU Inform Eurostat about changes to the LAU division CONC/MODA format maintained, but modified Include population and surface area of transferred territories Format described in document No. 16 (annex) Please send CONC/MODA reports to: ESTAT-NUTS@cec.eu.int
