The Split Brain Research Roger Sperry Karen Jones Period 8

Who Is Roger Sperry? Born in Hartford, Connecticut. August 13, 1913 and died in April17, 1994. His field of study was neuropsychology. his perspective would be considered biological.

His work & Research Sperry is mostly known for the his split brain research. He proved that the brain is split into two parts or hemispheres. He identified that the two parts of the brain specializes in its own style of thinking and has different capabilities. His theory was that the left hemisphere specialized in verbal tasks such as languages. The right hemisphere specialized in creativity.

HIS BACKGROUND Before the split brain theory, Sperry received his AB in English in 1935 than his Ma in Psychology 2 years later. He also pursued getting his PhD in Zoology which he got in 1941. In 1991 Sperry received the Nobel Prize for his discovery about the brain. Sperry in the end is relevant today because he discovered how the brain operates and how we are able to talk, speak, be creative, etc.

The hemispheres are connected though millions of nerve fibers The hemispheres are connected though millions of nerve fibers. What do you think will happen if the connection is broken? Could someone function with half a brain? Left side- analytic thought, logic, language, science and math right side- holistic thought, intutition, creativity, art and music
