Happy International Women’s Day
Extenuating Circumstances: This was literally the largest storm to hit our area in recorded history, surpassing: The Storm of 1966, “The Big Dump”1993, & The St. Valentine’s Day Storm 2007. If you completed your research paper, congratulations. If you did not complete your paper, you need to change your approach to school work before college.
Transition Slide: Last year (2017) was wild. This year (2018) was not. What did you do with the ½ day off? Let’s look at what research can lead to with the videos on the next slides…

A Former Student’s Message: Why do you need to know how to research and write papers? The following is a conversation between Mr. Short and his former student who graduated from Whitesboro High School in 2012.
The purpose of research journals, papers & presentations is to prepare you for college.
Quoted In: Articles contain quotes. When quoting a quote from an article, use the format shown below: Give credit to author with a lead in. Quote the selection. Cite the article. According to Steve Rogers “the Hydra organization is dangerous” (quoted in Schmidt 2).
Drafting Tips: Use quotations as proof and support of YOUR words. About 80% to 85% of your paper should be YOUR words. You should have about two quotes per page (6-10 total) depending on your paper length. You should use about five sources for this paper. Focus on what YOU are saying and use quotes to offer solid informational support from your articles. Always end with your words, not a quotation.
Responding: When responding, look for: Solid proof of thesis. Citation issues. Organization. Areas or confusion. Errors. Anything. Make positive remarks too. Tell your partner when/what they did well.
Time to Work: Share with a partner. Identify your partner BEFORE you begin working. You must share with someone. Do what you need to for your paper to be in its “final form.” Good luck!
Use the time given to you. Homework: Finish commenting on your partner’s paper. Get these done for tomorrow’s editing and the weekend’s finalizing. Use the time given to you.
