Agropuzzle 2 meeting in Czech Republic January 2014 Presentation Day 2

Directions for creating of multimedia presentation by participants of Czechs mobility within Leonardo da Vinci Agropuzzle 2 project.

The aim of presentation: To show characteristic features of running a farm and agrobusiness enterprises in Czech Republic on the basis of: 1) Kružberk – cow breeding – bio milk production 2) Sosnová – Vitaminátor – bio juice production 3) Heřminovy – Farma na konci světa – goat breeding 4) Staré Město u Bruntálu – Kolomý – bees breeding Each group (country) prepare its presentation in their mother tongue or in English for every visited place taking into account: Characteristic features listed above Personal remarks and feelings not included in the chart Photos taken on the spot

1. Individual farms and specialization in terms of plants and animal production – main products 1) Kružberk – cow breeding – bio milk production His business is cow breeding based on Zimmental cows, local rases and fodder from his own rented land. 2) Sosnová – Vitaminátor – bio juice production His business is specialized in producing bio juice from his own fruit harvest and conventional juice from the other fruit producers.

3) Heřminovy – Farma na konci světa – goat breeding They use the goats only for personal medical issue and they also produce home made soap. 4) Staré Město u Bruntálu – Kolomý – bees breeding The main products in this business are honey, honey specialties, creating new bee families.

2. Family oriented business activity 1) Kružberk – cow breeding – bio milk production Theyre two families involved in this business. 2) Sosnová – Vitaminátor – bio juice production The whole family is involved in the activities of the farm.

3) Heřminovy – Farma na konci světa – goat breeding The farm was created in order to resolve the illness of one of the members involved. 4) Staré Město u Bruntálu – Kolomý – bees breeding The business was owned by a Finnish and the Czech family is involved in management and production process.

3. Vocational education of company owners and their children connected to Opava Secondary Agricultural School 1) Kružberk – cow breeding – bio milk production The farm manager has a zootechnist certificate but non of the members of the family were involved in the Opava Secondary Agricultural School, but the students are used in part-time jobs. 2) Sosnová – Vitaminátor – bio juice production The owner does not have agricultural studies, but he learned from his father.

3) Heřminovy – Farma na konci světa – goat breeding The illness member of the ownership had professional knowledges in zootehnical issue. 4) Staré Město u Bruntálu – Kolomý – bees breeding The administrator of the company has special training in the field.

4. Acquiring of funds from European projects aimed at development and modernization of farms and enterprises (in close relation to agricultural education) 1)Kružberk – cow breeding – bio milk production They used EU programs to develop their business and to offer an example for students of what we could do with the European program money. 2) Sosnová – Vitaminátor – bio juice production They are acquiring funds for the process line.

3) Heřminovy – Farma na konci světa – goat breeding They don`t use the EU funds. 4) Staré Město u Bruntálu – Kolomý – bees breeding They don`t need to use the EU funds

5. Cooperation with raw materials suppliers and recipients of farm goods, both animal and vegetable 1) Kružberk – cow breeding – bio milk production They don`t buy raw materials because they sell the milk to the factory. 2) Sosnová – Vitaminátor – bio juice production They cooperate with the can and plastic bags producers.

3) Heřminovy – Farma na konci světa – goat breeding They cooperate with the plastic bags producers to package the soap. 4) Staré Město u Bruntálu – Kolomý – bees breeding They made their own raw products to help them in processing.

6. Any marketing activities aiming at acquiring raw material and cooperation with recipients of final product 1) Kružberk – cow breeding – bio milk production The company don`t use raw material because they sell the milk to the factory. 2) Sosnová – Vitaminátor – bio juice production They collaborate with the can and plastic bags factory which has as a purpose to pack the final product.

3) Heřminovy – Farma na konci světa – goat breeding At the micro farm level is unjustified a collaboration with a raw material producer because they were integrated in local business. 4) Staré Město u Bruntálu – Kolomý – bees breeding They produce him selves all the recipes for honey and other related products.

7. Showing significant production connections with foreign markets 1)Kružberk – cow breeding – bio milk production They export only cows in other countries. 2) Sosnová – Vitaminátor – bio juice production They export their products in Berlin, Germany, to hospitals for the hygiene level of production and to a number of 450 schools in Czech Republic.

3) Heřminovy – Farma na konci světa – goat breeding They use the products for themselves and local area. 4) Staré Město u Bruntálu – Kolomý – bees breeding The Bees company export their products in a lot of countries, especially in Israel, about 50% of total production.

8. Development of side activities such as agritourism and restaurants 1)Kružberk – cow breeding – bio milk production 2) Sosnová – Vitaminátor – bio juice production 3) Heřminovy – Farma na konci světa – goat breeding 4) Staré Město u Bruntálu – Kolomý – bees breeding They dont have such an activity.

9. The use of natural climatic and soil qualities in running a farming company within given area 1)Kružberk – cow breeding – bio milk production The area which surrounds the place is grassland ( 800 ha ecological field). 2) Sosnová – Vitaminátor – bio juice production They use their own 120 ha ecological certified fields for the best juice in the country.

3) Heřminovy – Farma na konci světa – goat breeding They use the natural environment to feed the goats. 4) Staré Město u Bruntálu – Kolomý – bees breeding The company use the best qualitative crops to obtain a high quality honey.

10. The use of landscape qualities in running a farm and agricultural company 1) Kružberk – cow breeding – bio milk production Because of the landscape, it was a perfect situation to do such activities. 2) Sosnová – Vitaminátor – bio juice production In this area the orchard have the highest pretability.

3) Heřminovy – Farma na konci světa – goat breeding It was a small farm and in that field can easily raise the goats. 4) Staré Město u Bruntálu – Kolomý – bees breeding The variety of honey are the result of different type of landscape and crops that they use in process.

11. The use of high quality products 1)Kružberk – cow breeding – bio milk production The cows milk have a 4.5% fats and 3.5% protein. 2) Sosnová – Vitaminátor – bio juice production Being a small farm, they afford to manually select the fruits for the best juice and their products are appreciated in schools and hospital from Czech Republic and Germany.

3) Heřminovy – Farma na konci světa – goat breeding They dont have such products. 4) Staré Město u Bruntálu – Kolomý – bees breeding Their high quality products are put for sale on their own stores and in the other countries.

12. Reduction of unemployment in the local area due to creation of new workplaces (recently) 1)Kružberk – cow breeding – bio milk production The farm was reconditioned and enlarged by their own workers. 2) Sosnová – Vitaminátor – bio juice production In the schedule time they need only 16 employees. GOOD PEOPLE MAKE GOOD BUSINESS

3) Heřminovy – Farma na konci světa – goat breeding They don`t need other workers. 4) Staré Město u Bruntálu – Kolomý – bees breeding The company are related with different kind of apiculture sectors that means they value all the resources.

Your opinion about visited places Advantages: - The cow and bee-breeding involved workers from outside their family in the activities and they sell a very best products from their business; - As an advantage for bee-breeding is that they produced the input themselves for business and also sell it; - Rising the goats helped one of the members to cure her illness; - The bio-juice business offer high quality products in schools and hospitals. Disadvantages: - At the cow-breeding farm they dont have own store to sell the finished products; - The goat farm have only a small marketing plan for the local area.
