Mechanism of action of a transcription factor decoy to STAT3. Mechanism of action of a transcription factor decoy to STAT3. A, activated or tyrosine phosphorylated STAT3 dimerizes and translocates to the nucleus where it binds to specific motifs on target sequences. B, when an oligonucleotide decoy to STAT3 is injected, it is incorporated via endocytosis and sequesters activated dimeric STAT3, thus competing with sequences in the DNA, blocking transcriptional output.
