Presentation transcript:

The origins of halloween Halloween was born in a celtic ritual they thought that the souls come to alive. By the eighth century, the Christian Church became the day on November 1 All Saints Day to honor all the saints who did not have a special day of celebration. Over the years these festivals combined, and most called 'All Hallowmas "(the mass of all the saints, holy persons) at All Saints' Day. The night before became known as "All Hallows Eve" (Eve of All Saints Day). Over time, his name became Halloween.

Important Lengends: Jack’o’Lantern (Ventura) A "Jack o'Lantern" is a pumpkin that is empty, and where is sculpted an evil face. Inside, puts some light, usually a candle, and is used as Halloween decorations. That tradition began in Ireland and Britain, where vegetable lanterns were used to illuminate, but little by little, because the pumpkin was the most abundant plant, began to use more, and finally this was associated with the festival of Halloween. The name comes from a legend that says that one man "Jack the mean", who uses a cross to trap the Devil. There are several versions of this story: One says, that Jack cheated the devil when he came to take him, because he got the Devil climb into a tree, and then put crosses in the tree, so he could not go down, and made him promise never will take it for go with him.

Trick or treat (Alicia) In halloween night, kids dress up as witches, skeletons, zombies, vampires… and go house to house, knocking and giving to choose "trick" or "treat".If neighbors give them candy, is cause they have chosen "treat", but if they do not give anything to kids, and choose "trick", will be victims of the pranks of children in revenge for not getting candy. This tradition comes from an old legend that tells that the spirits could roam the world on Halloween night, and that an evil spirit was going from house to house asking for trick or treating, and legend says that it was better to agree with the spirit, because if they chose "trick", the spirit put a curse on the house and who lived in it
