Warm-Up: WRITE DOWN THE DEFINITION OF COMMA SPLICE, THE EXAMPLE, AND WAYS TO FIX. TOMORROW THERE WILL BE A PRACTICE. Comma Splice: When two independent clauses are joined with only a comma. Example: Anna loves soccer, she practices everyday. Ways to fix: Add a FANBOYS (Anna loves soccer, and she practices everyday.) Change to a semi-colon if closely related (Anna loves soccer; she practices everyday.) Change to a period & capitalize first letter (Anna loves soccer. She practices everyday.)

Warm-Up, Tuesday 2/13/18 Social Contract Word: Responsible Launch: Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results. -Willie Nelson Using your notes from the warm-up yesterday, correct the comma splices below. Write the corrected sentences completely on your warm-up sheet. It is raining today, it is cold. Tomorrow it will be sunny, it will be cold. My sister is fifteen, I am fourteen. I had homework, I did it already.

Warm-Up 2/14 (Pre-AP Classes) RUN-ON SENTENCE: A sentence in which 2 or more independent clauses are combined without punctuation. For example: I love cookies I love cake. Run-ons can be corrected the same way comma splices are. REWRITE THE FOLLOWING SENTENCES, CORRECTING THE RUN-ONS: Today’s Valentine’s Day I wore pink. Roses are red violets are blue.

Warm-Up 2-15 (Core Classes) A run-on sentence occurs when two independent clauses “run” together without punctuation. For example: I like coffee I also like tea. To fix run-on sentences, you can add a comma and FANBOYS, semi-colon, or period. Fix the following run-ons using one of those methods. Jenna likes to sew Jenna also likes to paint. Last weekend, I saw a movie I also went to dinner.
