Purpose and goal The purpose of this digital story is to showcase our Veterans Day celebration. It is the goal of WJMS to serve others in the community through various service projects. As a service to honor our veterans we have set aside time on November 11th to recognize our community veterans.

Objectives and Standards The students will be able to hear first- hand primary accounts of military service performed by veterans. The students will be able to participate in a community service project through their talents and time, while honoring others. The students will be able to articulate an understanding of Armistice Day.

National Standard NSS-C.5-8.5 Roles of the Citizen What are the roles of the citizens in American democracy? What is citizenship? What are the rights of citizens? What are the responsibilities of citizens? What dispositions or traits of character are important to the preservation and improvement of American constitutional democracy? How can citizens take part in civic life?

Veterans Day A Digital Story By Sharon Synan

On November 11, 2009 WJMS celebrates Veterans Day

We decorated the halls with tribute.

The atrium welcomed them into the building.

The students were gathered.

The band played.

The chorus sang.

Patriotic music filled the gym.

Our veteran speaker gave an informative, moving speech. We learned about Armistice Day and we heard the stories of many local veterans and how they have sacrificed for our freedoms.

The students listened and behaved wonderfully.

Together we honored our veterans.

WJMS thanks all our veterans with a spirit of panther pride.
