اهداف آموزشی : انتظار می رود در پایان جلسه دانشجو بتواند:

معدن عبارت است از محل پیدایش طبیعی یک ماده معدنی (فلزی یا غیرفلزی) که مورد اکتشاف و بهره برداری قرار گرفته است، ومعادل لاتین آن (Mine) میباشد.

تاریخچه بهره برداری وکشف معادن و ذوب سنگ معدنها و استخراج فلزات از آنها به دوران باستان برمی گردد در مورد مس بعضی از باستان شناسان معتقدند که اولین بار مس در ایران شناخته و مورد استفاده قرار گرفته است. نمونه هایی ازسنگ معدن یافت شده در تل ابلیس در کرمان در حدود 6000 سال قدمت دارند. کهن ترین منطقه ای که آثار ذوب مس در آنجا به دست آمده در سیلک کاشان است. که قدیمی تر از تل ابلیس کرمان است.
