THE VIRTUE OF HUMILITY

VIRTUE *A habit gained by repeated practice *helps us perform virtuous acts with ease, joy and promptness

HUMILITY Living in the truth of who we are in relation to God and others

Types of HUMILITY Type We are... That means... So we should... Metaphysical a creature Everything we have comes from God; we are completely dependent on Him. Be grateful for all that we have and are. Ontological a person We are made in God’s image, which gives us dignity and greatness. Respect ourselves and others as images of God Spiritual a sinner We are weak and limited; we often make mistakes; we hurt ourselves and others Ask for help and forgiveness; forgive ourselves and others Psychological gifted for greatness God has given each of us special gifts to fulfill our unique mission in life Develop gifts (of nature and grace) through practice and prayer

Covenant God’s way of making us part of His family. God uses the images of ADOPTION and MARRIAGE to symbolize this.

Prefiguration helps us look for people and events in the Old Testament that point to Jesus for their fulfillment.
