Ramadan 2018 May 15 - June 14 This photo appeared on the UK Sun website with the caption: “A group of people observing Ramadan break fast together” What’s strange about this?

Ramadan Muslim followers do not eat or drink during the daylight hours of Ramadan. Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, improvement, increased devotion and worship. People are expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam. This includes fasting - which teaches people how to be more self- disciplined and have empathy for those less fortunate. Fasting is said to cleanse the soul by freeing it from worldly activities, and abolishing past sins.

Ramadan (Continued) The pre-dawn meal before the fast is called the suhur, while the meal at sunset that breaks the fast is the iftar. The eating of dates usually breaks the fast at sundown. After that, the usual practice is to adjourn for prayer and then the main meal is served. Muslims also increase restraint, such as abstaining from sexual relations. The holiday of Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the next lunar month.
