Principles for Community Engagement 1. Be clear about the purpose/goal of the engagement effort, and the population, communities you want to engage 2. Become knowledgeable about the community ito of its economic condition, political structures, norms & values, demographic trends, history and experience with engagement efforts 3. Go into the community, establish relationships, build trust, work with formal & informal leadership, seek commitment 4. Principles for Community Engagement 5. Partnering with community is necessary to effect change 6. All aspects of community engagement must recognise and respect community diversity 7. Community engagement can only be sustained by identifying & mobilising community assets & by developing capacity & resources for community development 8. An engaging organisation/change agent must be able to release control of actions to the community & be flexible to meet the changing community needs 9.
