CLASSROOM PROCEDURES Language Arts Bridge

STARTING CLASS When the bell rings, you should be in your seat and working on bell work. Anything you need to take care needs to be done before the bell stops ringing. Writing utensil, water, make-up work, etc. If something is of dire importance, stay in your seat and wait quietly until I come into the room.

BELL WORK Almost everyday there will be a vocabulary word on the board. (Vocab-u-toon) You will need to copy the word, part of speech, definition, one example sentence, and an original sentence into your Vocabulary Notebook (composition) There will be a timer set for 4 minutes then I will draw 3 popsicle sticks for students to read their original sentence. This will count as a participation grade and after every 10 words there will be a cumulative test.

DURING CLASS When I’m talking to the entire class, you are not talking– simple as that! If you have a question or comment, raise you hand. When it comes down to it, you don’t have to like me or your peers, but for a productive classroom environment, you must be respectful when others talk.

ABSENT Utilize all your resources! Ask a peer, check the website, ask me (at the appropriate time!) if you need clarification.

BE RESPONSIBLE! One of my jobs is to prepare you for high school and beyond. This means taking on more responsibility for your learning. Even though this is a Bridge class, we are still all on slightly different levels; we all learn differently! Some of you may remember everything from previous ELA classes, some may need refreshing, and some concepts may be totally new. If you are absent and miss a vocabulary word… If you are without a writing utensil or paper… If you miss notes…

My Job vs. Your Job I make a living on your success and growth! I expect you to put your best effort into your work, so I will, too. My responsibility as a teacher is to help you learn and master certain standards, listen to you, provide a productive and engaging environment… Your job? Sound fair?
