MGNREGA MNREGS is the worlds largest work guarantee programme and social security measure that aims to guarantee the ‘right to work’ as a Legal Right enacted in 2005. Aim: To ensure livelihood security in rural areas by providing at least 100 days of wage employment in a year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work. Objectives: 1. Enhancing livelihood security in rural areas (thereby addressing chronic poverty) 2. Creating durable assets and rural infrastructure (such as roads, canals,ponds, wells). Key features of MNREGS: Legal right to work Time bound guarantee of work and unemployment allowance Decentralised planning PRIs are primarily responsible for planning, implementation and monitoring of the works that are undertaken. Work site facilities with crèche, drinking water and first aid. Transparency and accountability Funding from Central And State(% given were by centre) Wages Material (75%) Administration (6%) Skilled (75%) Unskilled (100%) Semi-Skilled (75%)
