2019 KS CTE Scholar Recognition Gayla Randel, CFCS Education Program Consultant, Family & Consumer Sciences Lead: Human Services, Hospitality & Tourism, Ed & Training, Fashion, Apparel and Interior Design (FAID) Hello everyone. I am the new education consultant Cindy Hadicke. I began my job here at KSDE in June. My position is brand new and the focus of my position is elementary education. I have 15 years experience working in elementary schools and I have taught at the 1st, 4th, and 6th grade levels. Most recently I was an elementary school principal. What does KS CTE Scholar mean? A KS CTE Scholar is a student who is considered a well-rounded outstanding career and technical education student finishing their senior year of high school. Criteria includes: (all are required) Senior Level Earned (or presently enrolled) in 3.0 or more CTE credits with documented technical skill attainment (4 options) CTE GPA of 3. 5 or better in CTE coursework (those with CTE KCCMS codes) Demonstrated leadership/career success skills Demonstrated civic engagement or outstanding community service Demonstrated success in work place experiences Career vision reflection Award includes commemorative pin, KS State Board of Education recognition, state-wide news release, certificate, and listed on the KSDE CTE website “Wall of Fame” (www.ksde.org –CTE—CTE Table of Contents—Achievement) There are some new resources available to elementary professionals in the field. First of all there is a new webpage on the KSDE site for elementary educators., This page lists all standards by grade level. At the bottom of the page there are resources for classroom management and social emotional learning. If you would like to sign up for the LISTSERV please click on the link in this slide to be added to the list.

Parameters It’s not the Presidential CTE Scholar (federal level). Applications* are due: March 1, 2019 No maximum KS CTE Scholars Four (4) year compilation, not just senior year earned Civic Engagement (student led project with impact) vs Outstanding Community Service (100 hrs. 2018-19; then 200 hrs. 2019-20 & after) Work-place experiences (PLE) (80 hours) Student completed—submit by snail mail or email KS CTE Scholar Overview* document provides more details *NOTE: KS CTE Scholar Overview/application/related documents found on the CTE home page [www.ksde.org-- “C” for Career Technical Education (CTE)] On the right hand side of the elementary K-6 webpage there are additional links for the monthly newsletter which will be published around the 10th of each month. Something new are vertical alignment documents for English Language Arts that were newly created this summer by the new ELA consultant and I to better help with scaffolding of skills and planning of curriculum. There are also alignment documents for Science and History, Government, & Social Studies. You can also access my Professional Learning Calendar which shows were I will be attending or hosting professional learning on this tab.
