Životopis Andy Warhol (* 6. august 1928, Pittsburgh – † 22. február 1987, New York) bol americký maliar, filmový tvorca, autor a dôležitá osobnosť v hnutí pop art. Warhol sa narodil ako Andrew Warhola v Pittsburghu v Pensylvánii, USA, prisťahovalcom rusínskej národnosti z dediny Miková v Česko-Slovensku (dnes severovýchodné Slovensko). Ani jeden zo súrodencov sa nenarodil na Slovensku. Umelecký talent sa prejavil skoro, študoval priemyselné (komerčné) umenie na Carnegie Institute of Technology (dnes známe ako Carnegie Mellon University) v Pittsburghu.

Popart Popart alebo pop-art (skratka z angl. popular art - „populárne/ masové umenie“) je dominantný smer výtvarníkov 60. rokov 20. storočia, ovplyvnený populárnou kultúrou a komerčným umením, inšpirujúci sa veľkomestskou kultúrou a jej vizuálnymi prejavmi (fotografia, film, reklama, masmédiá, komiksy). Popart sa šíril okolo polovice 50. rokov nezávisle z dvoch umeleckých centier – Londýna a New Yorku. Nadviazal na myšlienky dadaizmu. Hnutie je späté predovšetkým s americkým výtvarníkom Andym Warholom, ktorého rodina pochádza zo Slovenska. Medzi jeho dielami nájdeme opakujúce sa rady vyobrazení produktov a osobností, napr. plechovky Campbelovej polievky, fľaše CocaColy, obrazy Marylin Monroe a Elvisa Presleyho realizované technikou sieťotlače. K ďalším predstaviteľom patria J. Johns, C. Oldenburg, T. Wesselman.
