IEEE 802.11ac and IEEE 802.11af passed FDIS in JTC1, with negative votes & accompanying comments The FDIS ballots on IEEE 802.11ac and IEEE 802.11af recently completed in ISO/IEC JTC1 Both ballots passed, each with one negative vote from China, along with accompanying comments The voting results and comments for IEEE 802.11ac are in JTC1/SC6 document N16271 IEEE 802.11af are in JTC1/SC6 document N16272 The proposed comment resolutions are on the following pages Andrew Myles, Cisco

IEEE 802.11 WG response to China NB’s first comment on IEEE 802.11ac China NB comment 1 on IEEE 802.11ac The editorial methods that China NB proposed to meet the ISO/IEC requirements in FDIS pre-ballot period and IEEE 802.11 WG replied to revise still haven’t been resolved in this text. Revise the text according to ISO/IEC standard requirements IEEE 802.11 WG response IEEE 802.11ac has been developed according to the IEEE Standards Association standards development process and IEEE-SA Standards Style Manual Editing and maintenance continue to be the responsibility of IEEE 802 and will continue to conform to the IEEE policies and procedures. The mechanisms defined and agreed in 6N15606 will apply. Andrew Myles, Cisco

IEEE 802.11 WG response to China NB’s second comment on IEEE 802.11ac China NB comment 2 on IEEE 802.11ac This standard still invokes IEEE 802.11i the security problem of which still exists Add suitable revision to this text IEEE 802.11 WG response This comment contains an assertion that has been made multiple times over many years without any supporting evidence. EEE 802.11-2012 (as amended by IEEE 802.11ac-2013) does not contain any demonstrated security problem for any non deprecated feature. Andrew Myles, Cisco

IEEE 802.11 WG response to China NB’s only comment on IEEE 802.11af China NB comment on 802.11af Television white spaces bands are strongly subject to national and regional regulations How to use them is not clear in many countries We don’t think it is necessary for an ISO International Standard on this subject. IEEE 802.11 WG response It is agreed that TVWS bands are subject to national/regional regulations, and indeed these regulations are still under definition. Annex E.1 (Country information and operating classes) properly cautions users of the standard to always consult current regulations Andrew Myles, Cisco
