deteriorate- to make or become less in value or quality

Another example: Richard’s teeth began to deteriorate because he never brushed them. Word in context: Go to the dogs. Meaning: To fall into disrepair, or to otherwise deteriorate in quality.

Excursion- a short outing or trip

Another example: This weekend we are going on an excursion to Silver Dollar City. Word in context: Barking up the wrong tree. During hunting excursions, coonhounds chase a raccoon up a tree.

Peculiar- something that is different or unusual

Another example: The basketball player Dennis Rodman has peculiar hair. Word in context: Playing cat and mouse. This saying was influenced by the peculiar way cats have of playing with their prey for a while before delivering the final blow.
