Key Questions Among persons served in the public mental health system… What is the frequency and severity of criminal involvement ? What are the MH treatment patterns before and after arrest?

Public Mental Health Data Types of MH services received, treated diagnosis, severity, demographics DOJ Type and dates for offense, disposition, re-offending Compare timing of MH service use and DOJ contact Inpatient, outpatient, crisis

Arrest Patterns

Treatment Patterns before and after Arrest Many not receiving MH treatment prior to arrest 28% received service 1 month prior to arrest 47% received service 6 months prior to arrest Virtually no difference in the chance of receiving any service before vs. after arrest More likely to receive inpatient or crisis service after arrest Not more likely to receive outpatient services
