Presentation transcript:

Availability of Raw Materials Dylan, Coltan, Kirsten

Why do companies tend to be located in areas where the crops are grown? Fruits and vegetables should be processed as soon as possible after being picked.

Why are companies so carful with their placing of markets? They want to have their markets where the majority of its customers are located. Also, delivery time is less.

Summary Most of the companies aren't located in a specific location because their customers come from everywhere. If the company is close to its customers then they don't need to spend a lot of money. If the location is near fresh water it helps the business with cooling and cleaning services.

Glossary

Fresh Water and power and labour supply Jocelyn, Thijs, Billie

Avalibity of Fresh Water and Power Most manufacturing need a lot of fresh water and power. They need it for cooling and cleaning purposes In the pioneer days they used the water to power machinery.

Labour Supply The companies have to consider the availability and cost of the labor In the past, companies have needed low cost labor force After the signing of NAFTA it has been hard for Canada to compete with Mexico and parts of the USA. Companies in Canada need workers with advanced skills.

Transportation and political factors Michelle, Payton and Callie

It helps businesses sell products by using transportation by getting product in and out. For each business there is a different method of transportation used. For some companies transportation is the most important factor. For example: air freight use ships to transport around the world.

Transportation Continued Summary Every company needs fast and efficient transportation. Transportation is the important factor. For instance mills in Hamilton take advantage of raw materials shipped there.

Political factors Definition Decision made by government that will help attract new business or of its not careful it will drive investment away. What does the government have to do with political factors? They provide good business climate and they make final decisions that will help attract new business or in worst cases will drive investments away. For example the government has a high impact on new and congested highways .

Political factors continued Summary To attract and keep industry the government must provide a good business climate. Two types of government decisions can effect the willingness of a company to locate in an area: direct and indirect. Direct is offer reduced taxes. Indirect is adding new highways.
