BACKGROUND TO THE PROJECT Eskom is currently responding to the growing electricity demand within South Africa Will need to establish new generation & transmission capacity in South Africa over the next few years
PROJECT DESCRIPTION (S) In order to address the existing network constraints in the Polokwane North Area and to be able supply the mines in the Musina area, Eskom proposed the following: Construction of a 400kV power line of about 250km from Borutho Substion in Mokopane to Bokmakierie Substation near Musina. Legal Context National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) No 107 of 1998, Regulation 545 of 2010, Activity 8- The construction of facilities or infrastructure for the transmission and distribution of electricity with a capacity of 275 kilovolts or more, outside an urban area or industrial complex Regulation 544 of 2010, Activity 10, 22, 26, 28, 47 Regulation 546 Activity 4, 12 and 19 Eskom requires authorisation from DEA (in consultation with Limpopo Province DEDET)
