ALGEBRA Lesson #31

Equations We must find the missing value in a mathematical statement. Find the unknown (variable = letter ) An equation may be solved using trial and error Some equations can be solved using inverse-operation method.

Inverse Operation method: Ex: (you do the opposite order of BEDMAS) 7n – 2 = 110 7n = 110 + 2 7n = 112 n = 112 ÷ 7 n = 16 Go backwards to double-check 7(16) – 2 =

3x – 0.5 = 0

4 – 2p = -10

What is the rank if the term is 15 in this rule: t = 2n + 3 The term 15 is the 6th term. Rank = 6

What is the rank if the term is = 34 What is n if t=34? t = 3n + 4

Solve: 36 = 4n + 20
