Hans Christian Andersen by Kristina Cardona

Young Andersen Hans Christian Andersen was born on April 2nd 1805 in Denmark. He died on August 4th 1875. He was 70 years old. When young he went to school but had to work as well. Andersen worked as a weaver’s apprentice and later for a tailor. At 14 he started working as an actor.

Young Andersen In 1822 he started to write poems and short stories. He published the first fairy tales in 1835 which to these days are very popular. His stories have been translated in 150 languages.

Little Mermaid Statue In Copenhagen harbour there is a statue of Little Mermaid in his honour. April 2nd Andersen’s birthday is celebrated as ‘International Children’s Books Day’.
