Elements OF CULTURE

Elements Elements are the norms or patterns of behavior that most people in a group follow.

Customs and Traditions What different holidays or beliefs does a particular culture participate in?

Religion Your beliefs about the cause, nature and purpose of the universe

Clothing What type of clothing do people in different cultures wear? Does the weather, government, or beliefs influence their choices?

Art and Recreation What do people do for fun? What type of music do they listen to? What does their art look like? What sports are played?

Economics What do people do to make money? What products are produced? What products need to be brought in to the culture? How important is money in the culture?

Food What types of food does a culture eat? How does a culture acquire their food? Does the location of a culture influence their food choices?

Government What types of government do different cultures have? Do the citizens get to vote? Are the citizens ruled by one leader or many?

Knowledge/Education What type of education to the people have access to? Do children go to formal school, or are they schooled at home? Do children work instead of going to school? What knowledge do they have?

Language What is the language spoken in the culture? How do the people in the culture pass down their history, orally, or written?

Shelter What type of homes do people live in? Are their homes made of items found in nature? Do people live permanently in their home, or do they move frequently?

Tools What type of tools are used in a culture? Are tools used for survival, hunting, work, or play?
