WP and Pillar leader meeting

One of our key goals: High quality academic publications ( journal articles and books) Several ways to achieve this Concern: how to find time for research….

Benefits of contacts Shortcuts to the academic frontier Opportunity to put results in a larger perspective Opportunity to see the effect of different methodological choices asking similar questions Opportunity to identify new collaborators Increase the quality/innovation of our results Opportunity to identify the researchers that arrive at a different conclusion and understand why Build a strong network of anticorruption scholars in europe

Potential ways in which fellow WPs may be interesting Asks a similar question Produces similar results Achieves conflicting results, reaches different conclusions Methodologically interesting

How can a WP/ pillar leader  ensure that their work package will benefit from the work conducted in other WPs in the program?

Introduction to Discussion Plurality is good No commitments: search for the ideal! Output: a list of things to choose between! 10 minutes+10 minutes

Thanks for your input!

Comments Skype conversations within and outside pillars. Discuss problems, cross research issues. Pillar leaders trying to create synergies between pillars. Organise seperate meetings with several WPs. Present WPs results between WP leaders. WP leaders should provide an updated list of issues, that may be relevant for other WPs. Every two months. Joint publications. Problem is that you don‘t really interact that much. Extra time for presentation of deliverables at the consortium meetings. Encourage people to read deliverables. Facilitate: Abstracts, executive summaries. Circulate it quicker not waiting for acceptance

More comments Skype meeting on specific deliverables to discuss the main findings. Reading is not enough, we need to meet and discuss. More time for research discussion and focus on interesting results. May be too late to wait until the next general meeting. Coordinator should organise this. Link work to other WPs. Circulation of info. „Sponanous institutionalisation“. Too much focus on end results. Important also to share methodologies, codebooks etc. Add a „data page“ on the webpage. Exchange ideas about methodologies before the flood of deliverables in 2015.Seminars and workshop. Joint workpage meetings. Discussing each others papers.

Even more comments Circulating scientific parts of the Periodic report and give feedback. Those who are not extremely busy in the project may be asked to review and discuss papers and deliverables. Cross references of definition. Workshops and take advantage of natural opportunities, e.g. Conferences. Specific sessions on methodologies and findings and even better, drafts on these things. More about research. Find general themes that cross WPs and pillars at the next general meeting and arrange the meetings around them.

Thanks!

MB preliminary list of examples Use meetings ( like this one) to produce a list of new potential collaborator WPs Broaden your scope when looking for collaborators Arrange webconferences on a regular basis with the WPs you would like to collaborate with Share interesting paper and abstract with these WP leaders Email research themes that you are interested in to some or all other WP leaders and ask what is going on on this theme Pillar workshops Share information on the webpage Think about fellow WPs when you organize panels at conferences

continued Invite each other to speak at home deparments Contact other WP leaders when you are putting together a deliverable Read all executive summaries Circulate your summary to the WP leader list Cross referencing of deliverables thematic cross-disciplinary publications region-based publications Circulate emails on how you perceive you relate to other WPs Make data sets avaiable

Questions Outputs: What are the most important outputs of the program? Outcomes: What are the most desired potential outcomes of the program? Threats/ challenges/opportunities: What are the most important/critical factors to achieve both of these goals? Can the findings of the different WPs be constructively compared and contrasted, and if so, how? How can WP leaders help ensure that deliverables are used for academic publications, as well as for stipulated deliverables?
