Earlier today your teacher emailed Moorgate Police Station with your final piece of work on Solving the Case. I have been amazed and thrilled by your brilliant powers of deduction and outstanding scientific research. You pieced together all the clues to make sense of the evidence. I sent my officers straight to the Grand Theatre to check on your theories and this is what they found:

You realised the black felt tip pen and the pad of sticky notes found in Sue’s pocket were the exact materials used to write the coded message

You thought that the Cu on the message was the beginning of the word cushion and that this was the place where Sue first hid the earrings. We showed Nina a shadow of one of the cushions on the sofa and she said it was exactly the same as what she saw. Sue took out the earrings and gave them to Maggie when they were supposed to be searching.

As Maggie took the earrings from Sue, 2 tiny rainbows appeared on the curtain. You realised that the stolen diamonds could act like tiny prisms and split light into the 7 colours of the rainbow. This proved beyond doubt that Maggie and Sue had the diamonds on the stage But where did Maggie hide them?

You remembered that in his statement, Greg told us: “Once she left the stage, I could see the red curtain on the right hand side move around quite a lot. I think perhaps she caught a bit of curtain in her wheel.” But Maggie did not catch the curtain in her wheel, she was looking for a better place to hide the earrings. She had a little pair of scissors ready in her pocket. She unpicked a small section of the hem and dropped the earrings inside. She hid the tiny piece of cut thread in her pocket.

After reading all your brilliant theories, I sent my officers to search the curtain. They found a tiny section had been unpicked and sure enough inside they found The stolen diamond earrings!

Because of all your hard work and brilliant detective skills, we now have enough evidence to arrest Sue and Maggie. I expect they will be going to prison for a very long time! Everyone at Moorgate Police Station would like to thank you for all you’ve done to help solve this difficult case!
