Format for the Debates Two people on each team ‘pro’ and ‘con’ Key considerations for grading Good preparation Opening statements are clear Team members participate equally Opponents counterpoints addressed Good summary Answer to class questions well thought out Respect shown throughout debate: no name-calling, interuptions

Debate Time Allotments Presentation: 2 times 5 minutes ( 5 for each person on each side). Questions only for clarification (10 + 10 minutes = 20 minutes) Rebuttal: Summarize opponents argument and what is wrong with it (8 + 8 minutes) Summary: Explain why ‘pro’ or ‘con’ is best (3 minutes each side) Questions from class audience, as time allows General discussion from class
