Direct democracy: used in ancient greece every citizen can vote on every issue and has an equal say

role of the common people the city had a lawmaking group known as the assembly. Any free man could speak at the assembly and vote on a new law or proposal to go to war. Free men were also in charge of leading religious ceremonies, leading the armies, and punishing people who owed money

Representative democracy: not used in ancient Greece people vote on others to represent their interests in government and vote for them

Sometimes people persuaded voters to vote unwisely and make bad decisions. Often times, the assembly would reverse important decisions after only a couple of weeks because of these issues, most city states returned to older types of governments such as an oligarchy or a tyranny
