Maggie Taylor Surreal Artist & Photographer

What was her process in this image? Taylor’s Process… She combines found objects, scanned images, paintings and photographs to create her surreal images. What was her process in this image? Subject to change, 2004

Taylor’s Themes… Childhood memories Anxieties Television consumption She works “intuitively.” As she finds materials, she scans them into PhotoShop, and then “plays” until an idea comes to her. Twilight swim, 2004

Taylor’s Subjects… People in Victorian time period photographs… Why do they all look so serious? How does that affect the emotional impact of her work? Girl in a bee dress, 2004

“It’s not the same process as photography, that’s for sure…You start with nothing instead of going into the real world and reacting to things.” From her book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Project: Intuitive Illustration… Combine scanned images with photos (that you have taken) and your illustration/manipulation skills in PhotoShop to create an intuitive image. You must have: At least 3 scanned items. NO INTERNET RESOURCES This is an intuitive project. You may have a scene (like Maggie Taylor’s work), collage, or pattern-design, etc. The theme and subject matter are open!
