Discuss these images with students – what do they represent Discuss these images with students – what do they represent? Through the discussion lead the students to a definition of a social issue. This is roughly: Social issues are problems that affect some people, or certain groups, in society.

Read out the Case Study and ask students to write out the social issues as they are mentioned. Ask students to draw links of cause and effect between the boxes.

As a class, brainstorm the social issues in your local area.
