Gifted Resource Curriculum Night

Ms. Marie Bialorucki (bye-lore-rookie) Professional: I have been teaching for the past 15 years, and I have taught primarily Math for the past 10 years. I have 4 years experience teaching Gifted students and I hope to inspire a great desire of learning for your child this year., I have been teaching all levels of middle school math ranging from sixth grade math, pre- algebra, algebra, and high school geometry. I also have 9 years experience teaching GED students all subjects to gain their high school diplomas.

Ms. Marie Bialorucki Personal: I enjoy camping, water activities, hiking, volleyball, football, movies, reading, and kayaking. I really enjoy NFL football and play in a fantasy league with my family across 4 states. I am also a true blue ASU Sun Devils fan since that is my Alma Mater. I love my little kitty fur baby, Sebastian. He gives me lots of love and happiness.

Math - Primary Focus Standards based curriculum at an accelerated pace. All students will receive their grade level instruction including a broader depth of concepts using the Common Core Math Standards for 4th, 5th and some 6th grade -Investigations/Connected Math -Engage New York (Common Core) -Group Math Projects- in class -Georgia Dept of Ed Standards of Excellence -Fosnot Math Units problem solving approach- uses real-life situations to model mathematical ideas -Hands on Equations Exit questions quizzes biweekly Homework M,T,Th

Grades Grades will be based on : Homework Classwork Quizzes Tests Unit Assessments I will be the teacher of record for your child’s Math Grade for their report card.

Reading – IFG (enrichment) 30 minutes of Individualized Flexible Grouping Pullout – Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri (Verbal students only) Novels Short stories/Poems Writing Vocabulary Wordly Wise Jr. Great Books

K-3 Cluster classes (Dr. Michelle Lamp) There is ongoing professional development for the cluster teacher. Besides myself there will be an additional gifted teacher who will be in contact with your child’s classroom teacher to provide additional support. This model has been shown to improve student achievement across all academic levels. Differentiated Learning Plans provide a framework for instruction for your child.

Bright Child vs Gifted Learner Is attentive in class Remembers the answers Is receptive Needs 6 to 8 reps to master Learns with ease Grasps the meaning Gets high grades Is able Works hard Is pleased with own learning Gifted Is selectively mentally engaged Poses unforeseen questions Is intense Needs 1 to 2 reps to master Already knows Infers and connects concepts May not be motivated by grades Is intellectual Plays around, yet tests well Is highly self-critical

Gifted Categories Verbal: Great talent with words and language. Non Verbal: Outstanding ability to solve problems through pictures and shapes. Quantitative: Master at numbers, calculations, and number relationships
